Ireland is bracing for Storm Boelo within 24 hours while twin weather fronts threaten clean-up efforts following Storm Austen, independent.ie and the Irish Independent report. Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange alert for six counties as torrential rainfall and strong winds threaten further flooding and weather disruption, according to independent.ie and the Irish Examiner. [1][6][9]

The arrival of Storm Boelo follows closely after Storm Austen, which brought heavy rain and severe weather warnings across the region. Before the latest storm, Cork, Kerry, and Waterford were placed under an orange rain warning from 10pm on Thursday until 5am on Friday, as reported by the Irish Examiner. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Storm Austen was the first named storm of the European windstorm season. [4][6][15]

The UK Met Office announced Storm Boelo as the second named storm of the season, RTÉ and Fosse 107 report. According to RTÉ, a yellow wind warning will take effect at 6pm on Saturday and run until 3pm on Sunday. The UK Met Office warning covers the Northern Ireland counties of Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Derry, and Tyrone, as well as northern areas of England and Scotland, RTÉ noted. [2][10]

Authorities are currently carrying out damage assessments across Ireland following the impacts of Storm Austen, RTÉ reports. The 2026, 27 European windstorm season is the twelfth occurrence of the coordinated severe weather naming programme, spanning from September 2026 through August 2027. [5][12]
