Storm Boelo has left thousands of homes without electricity across Ireland and parts of the United Kingdom. Independent.ie, the Irish Independent, Extra.ie, and the Connaught Telegraph all reported that thousands of households lost power, with the storm severely impacting western counties, Connacht, and County Mayo. Meanwhile, the BBC and The Guardian reported that amber weather warnings came into effect as 80mph gusts hit Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England. [1][2][4][5][6][8][9][11][12]

Power grid operators worked throughout the weekend to restore electricity supplies. According to BBC News, the National Grid announced on Saturday that workers had restored power to more than 124,000 properties since the onset of the storm. However, BBC News added that hundreds of homes remained without power on Saturday evening, including more than 2,000 properties in north-west England. [2]

Weather authorities warned that the severe conditions could cause significant disruption and damage. BBC News reported that the Met Office warned of potential power cuts, flying debris, building and tree damage, travel delays, and danger to life from large waves. Independent.ie noted that despite the clearing weather in the capital, the Dublin Marathon was expected to proceed. [1][2]

Storm Boelo is the second named storm to hit the region within 48 hours. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the storm followed closely after Storm Austen, which was the first named storm of the 2026 to 2027 European windstorm season and had already left thousands of homes without power in south-west England.
