The United Kingdom and Ireland are preparing for the arrival of Storm Boelo on Saturday, October 24. BBC News and the Guardian both report that northern parts of the UK, Scotland, and Northern Ireland will face heavy rain and strong winds. BBC News and the liberal.ie note that Met Office amber wind warnings are set to come into force at 21:00 BST. [1][3][5]

Forecasters expect widespread gusts across the region. BBC News reports expected gusts of 60 to 70mph in Scotland, while the Guardian and Sky News report that winds could exceed 80mph in northern parts of the UK. The Irish Times reports that Met Eireann has issued status orange wind warnings for five counties, alongside status yellow warnings. [1][3][4][7]

The arrival of Storm Boelo comes immediately after Storm Austen. The Guardian reports that thousands of homes in south-west England remain without power following Friday's weather. BBC News adds that the National Grid is continuing work to restore power to those affected. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Storm Austen was the first named storm of the season, bringing winds up to 84mph to south-west England. [1][3][13]

Authorities across multiple regions have urged caution ahead of the worst conditions. BBC News reports that the severe weather brings an increased risk of travel disruption and a potential risk to life. The liberal.ie reports that An Garda Siochana and the Road Safety Authority have advised motorists in Ireland to exercise extreme care on the roads. [1][6]
