Radio Kerry reported that Kerry County Council has been urged to apply for immediate safety and conservation funding for four West Kerry cemeteries. Sinn Féin councillor Robert Brosnan introduced the motion during a recent meeting of the Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District. [1]
According to Radio Kerry, the urgent works are needed at the Garfinny, Raheenyhoig, Kildrum, and old Dunquin burial grounds. Councillor Brosnan explained that the installation of sheep-wire fencing across these four sites has caused anxiety among families with loved ones buried there. [1]
Radio Kerry also noted that Councillor Brosnan highlighted the historical significance of the cemeteries, stating that individuals who helped found the state are interred in these locations. [1]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, elected representatives in Kerry have previously raised concerns regarding public services and funding in the region. Sinn Féin Transport Spokesperson Pa Daly recently called for urgent resources to restore local transport routes after the National Transport Authority rejected funding applications. [5]
