Director Guillermo Del Toro has publicly praised Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s new satirical film Digger following its premiere over the weekend, Deadline and Yahoo News UK reported. The feature film, which stars actor Tom Cruise, opened in cinemas to mixed reviews from critics. [1][2]

According to Deadline, Del Toro posted on social media to defend the film against negative commentary. The three-time Oscar winner responded to a critic who described the release as far from a must-watch, calling the movie decidedly a theatrical experience. [1]

Del Toro previously directed and co-wrote Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, a 2022 animated musical dark fantasy film made with co-director Mark Gustafson, Patrick McHale, and Matthew Robbins. The screen story is loosely based on the 1883 Italian novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, with character designs influenced by illustrator Gris Grimly. Set in Fascist Italy during the interwar period, the story follows a wooden puppet brought to life as the son of the carver Geppetto. The voice cast includes Gregory Mann as Pinocchio and David Bradley as Geppetto, alongside Ewan McGregor, Burn Gorman, Ron Perlman, and John Turturro. [3]
