Amazon MGM's Verity topped the box office with $33 million while Tom Cruise's film Digger recorded his lowest opening weekend in nearly two decades.

FTMQ News, written by our newsroom

Amazon MGM's thriller "Verity" led the weekend box office with an estimated $33 million opening, while Tom Cruise's satirical film "Digger" earned under $10 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter, The Wrap, and Deadline. The Hollywood Reporter and The Wrap both reported that "Verity" earned approximately $15 million on its opening day. For "Digger", The Wrap reported a $7.5 million opening weekend, while Deadline and Forbes put the figure at $8 million. [1][3][4][5][6]

Deadline and The Wrap reported that the weekend marked Cruise's lowest film opening in nearly two decades. Deadline noted that it is his lowest debut since "Lions for Lambs" opened to $6.7 million in 2007. Additionally, Deadline reported that audiences gave both "Verity" and "Digger" a C+ CinemaScore. [3][4][5]

Outlets provided varying figures for the production cost of "Digger". Collider reported the film had a $200 million budget, whereas EURweb stated the budget was $135 million. The Wrap reported that the satirical feature is Warner Bros.' final release before a takeover by Paramount. [4][7][9]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, "Verity" maintained a strong lead over competing new releases. Cruise is a Hollywood actor known for high-risk action stunts whose films have grossed more than $13.3 billion globally. [12][15][16]

In short

  • Amazon MGM's Verity earned an estimated $33 million in its opening weekend.
