Tom Cruise Defends Digger as Film Faces Weak Box Office Opening

Actor Tom Cruise praised his movie Digger on social media after the film suffered a weak debut that marked his lowest box office opening in 19 years.

FTMQ News, written by our newsroom0 views

Actor Tom Cruise shared behind-the-scenes photos on social media to support his new film Digger as it faced a difficult box office opening, according to the Hollywood Reporter and Forbes. The movie, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu and released by Warner Bros., is heading toward an opening weekend of around 8 million dollars. [1][4]

Deadline and the Hollywood Reporter both reported that the debut is the lowest for Tom Cruise in 19 years, since Lions for Lambs opened to 6.7 million dollars in 2007. Deadline added that the film received a C+ CinemaScore and trailed behind Verity, which opened with more than 33 million dollars. Outlets gave different figures for the budget of Digger, with the Hollywood Reporter reporting a budget of 125 million dollars and Collider reporting 200 million dollars. [1][2][3][5][6]

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Digger centers on an egotistical oil tycoon who causes a natural disaster. Despite the weak financial start, Cruise stated on social media that he was honored to have had the opportunity to create the project and expressed his appreciation to the cast and crew. The Times of India reported that Cruise called a 10-minute one-take monologue his favourite scene in the movie. [1][9]

In short

  • Digger is projected to earn around 8 million dollars in its opening weekend.
  • The opening is the lowest for a Tom Cruise movie in 19 years.
  • Outlets reported the budget of Digger at between 125 million and 200 million dollars.
  • Alejandro G. Iñárritu directed the Warner Bros. film.
