Director Guillermo Del Toro publicly defended the film Digger on social media after the feature received mixed reviews upon its theatrical release, Variety and Deadline reported. The Warner Bros. R-rated black comedy was directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu and stars Tom Cruise. [1][2][3][4]

Variety reported that Del Toro called out critics of the movie on X, describing one review headline as entirely petty. According to Variety and Deadline, Del Toro praised the satire as daring, bold, and cinematically complex, adding that it is decidedly a theatrical experience. [1][2]

The defense follows early performance reports for the movie. Forbes reported that Digger is facing a weak box office opening, with projections estimating an 8 million dollar opening weekend. [4]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, the film premiered to mixed reviews from critics after its release. In an interview with Collider, Iñárritu said that working with Cruise on the project marked a career first for him as a filmmaker. [3][11]
