Two giant pandas from China have made their first public appearance at Zoo Atlanta as crowds of visitors lined up to see them on Friday. DW, CBS News, and NBC News all reported on the debut of the bears. [1][3][6]
DW reported that the pandas, a six-year-old male named Ping Ping and a female named Fu Shuang, were seen eating bamboo during their public debut. The pair arrived at the zoo from Chengdu, China, on September 27 aboard a FedEx flight dubbed the Panda Express. [1]
The panda duo spent several weeks adjusting to their new habitat before being unveiled to the public, according to DW. Their arrival fills a panda enclosure at Zoo Atlanta that had remained empty since 2024 following a 25-year-long partnership. [1]
The giant panda is a vulnerable bear species native to China. Estimates suggest that around 1,500 to 3,000 individuals live in the wild. [12]
