President Donald Trump emerged from the White House private residence on Wednesday for his first public appearance following major Republican losses in the United States midterm elections. The Daily Mail and the New York Post reported that the president addressed the election results while discussing ongoing White House renovation projects. [1][3]

During his appearance, President Trump described plans to build a White House ballroom and touted features including Corinthian columns and ordered marble flooring, according to the New York Post. The New York Times and AP News reported that the president also asked attendees if they had seen the helipad, while NBC News noted that he commented on holding large dinners. [2][3][4]

The public appearance followed a difficult election night for the Republican Party. According to the New York Post, 71 percent of voters called on Congress to act as a check on the president, while the Guardian reported that President Trump acknowledged the unpopularity of the war in Iran. [2][3][4]

The White House serves as the official residence and workplace of the president of the United States, located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. It has served as the official residence for every American president since John Adams took office in 1800. [12]

Separately, France 24 reported that First Lady Melania Trump is scheduled to host Russian and Ukrainian officials at the White House on Thursday. The meeting comes ahead of peace talks scheduled in Abu Dhabi that aim to end the war in Ukraine. [7]
