A former member of the Irish Defence Forces will be assessed for community service after taking an intimate photograph of a woman without her consent, the Irish Examiner reported. Henry Carey, aged 27, pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to one count of possessing an intimate image of the woman. [1]
According to the Irish Examiner, the incident occurred on September 25, 2023, at Carey's home in Conroy Park, Kilcullen, County Kildare. The woman was 18 years old at the time and was starting to get dressed when Carey took the photograph while she was entirely naked. The court heard that Carey saved the image on his mobile phone. [1]
The prosecution stated that Carey was 24 years old at the time of the offence. The court was also informed that he had been discharged from the army shortly before the incident took place. [1]
The Defence Forces comprise the armed forces of Ireland, consisting of the Permanent Defence Force and the Reserve Defence Force. As FTMQ News reported earlier, other former members of the Defence Forces have previously faced criminal prosecution in Irish courts. [3][5]
