Radio Kerry reported that councillors in all municipal districts across County Kerry have agreed to draft budgetary plans for 2027 during meetings held at Áras an Chontae. The local agreements were completed in anticipation of the full Kerry County Council considering its overall 2027 budget on 23 November. [1]
According to Radio Kerry, the Kenmare Municipal District approved an allocation of 120,000 euros, which includes 65,000 euros for a Strategic Development Fund and 55,000 euros for a Community Support Fund. Councillors in the Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne district passed a General Municipal Allocation of 132,000 euros, comprising 70,000 euros for their Strategic Development Fund and 62,000 euros for their Community Support Fund. The Listowel district is set to receive 153,000 euros, which includes 58,000 euros for its Community Support Fund. [1]
Kerry County Council is based at Áras an Chontae in Tralee and operates under the Local Government Act 2001. It comprises 33 elected members and is responsible for local administration including housing, roads, urban planning, and culture. [2]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, municipal funding allocations have previously caused debate among local representatives. Councillors discussed spending after the local authority invested over 4.5 million euros in footpaths across the county over five years, which saw Tralee councillors receive half the footpath funding allocated to Killarney. [4]
The full Kerry County Council is scheduled to formally consider the 2027 county budget on 23 November. [1]
