Man accused of Kerry farmer murder seeks new legal team
A former United States soldier charged with murdering a sheep farmer in County Kerry has requested new barristers ahead of his trial next year.

A man charged with murdering County Kerry sheep farmer Mike Gaine wants new barristers ahead of his upcoming trial, independent.ie and RTÉ both report. The case was heard at the Central Criminal Court. [1][2]
The accused, 54-year-old Michael Kelley, is a former United States soldier and native of Maine who has no fixed abode in Tralee, County Kerry, RTÉ reported. He is charged with a single count of murdering 56-year-old Mr Gaine at Carrig, Kenmare. Mr Kelley was sent forward for trial in Dublin last May after being served with the book of evidence. [2]
According to independent.ie, Mr Kelley is expected to go on trial at the Central Criminal Court on January 11, 2027. However, RTÉ reported that he faces a nine-week trial scheduled for next January. [1][2]
County Kerry is located on the southwest coast of Ireland in the province of Munster. It is the fifth largest of Ireland's 32 counties by land area. [4]
