Sinn Féin housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin stated that lessons must be learned from the time it took to deliver bottled water to residents in Ballyheigue, County Kerry, Radio Kerry reported. A do not consume notice was placed on the Ballyheigue Public Water Supply on October 7 after saltwater entered the network. [1]
Radio Kerry reported that 200 homes in nearby Causeway have since been removed from the restriction. Those properties are now being temporarily supplied from the Listowel Public Water Supply. Ó Broin also expressed criticism regarding the level of central government funding provided to Uisce Éireann. [1]
Ballyheigue is a coastal town located 18 kilometres northwest of Tralee along the R551 road and forms part of the Wild Atlantic Way. The town features several miles of beaches connecting to Banna Strand and Kerry Head, and its beach was named the best beach in Ireland by the Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards in 2026. [2]
The village offers family amenities along the Wild Atlantic Way including lifeguarded swimming areas during bathing season, a nine-hole golf course, and the end of the North Kerry Way walking trail. Historically, Ballyheigue Castle was built by the Crosbie family in the 18th century before being burned by the Irish Republican Army in May 1921 during the Irish War of Independence. [3]
