Former college football head coach Urban Meyer stated during an appearance on Don't @ Me with Dan Dakich that Texas quarterback Arch Manning has gone backwards. Fox News reported that Meyer praised Manning's performance during a comeback victory against Ohio State last month, but said the quarterback has since regressed. [1]

The comments follow consecutive upset losses for Texas against Oklahoma and Florida, according to Fox News and the Daily Mail. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Florida defeated Texas 27-24 in Austin, marking the second straight loss for the Longhorns to an unranked opponent. The Daily Mail reported that ESPN's Pete Thamel said redshirt freshman backup quarterback KJ Lacey is expected to receive more first team practice repetitions this week, although Manning remains the starting quarterback. [1][3][11]

CBS Sports reported that Manning was the highest-rated prospect in the 2023 recruiting class and is still regarded as a potential first-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft. Urban Meyer won three national championships during his collegiate head coaching career, which included head coaching stints at Florida and Ohio State. [1][2][7][9]

Manning is a member of the Manning football family, and attended Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, Louisiana before enrolling at Texas. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian stated after the team's second straight loss that all aspects of the offense will be evaluated, as reported earlier by FTMQ News. [8][10][11]
