Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian stated on Saturday that he will evaluate all aspects of his team's offense, including quarterback Arch Manning, following a loss to Florida in Austin. The New York Post reported that the Longhorns lost 27-24 at home. Fox News and the New York Post both reported that Manning suffered a late strip-sack fumble to end the final driving effort for Texas. [1][2][4]
The result marked the second consecutive defeat for Texas against an unranked opponent, following a loss to Oklahoma. CBS Sports reported that the Longhorns became the first program since 1961 to be ranked No. 1 in the AP poll and then lose back-to-back games to unranked teams. CBS Sports added that Florida mounted a comeback victory led by backup quarterback Tramell Jones. [2][3][4]
When asked by reporters about potentially benching Manning, Sarkisian stated that the team was not playing good offensive football and that everything would be evaluated. The New York Post noted that Sarkisian did not answer questions about a potential quarterback change directly. [2]
Sarkisian previously served as the head football coach at the University of Washington and the University of Southern California before taking over at Texas. Manning is the nephew of former National Football League quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Eli Manning. [4][11][12]
