Actress Florence Pugh has detailed her experience starring in and executive producing Netflix's new miniseries adaptation of East of Eden, created by showrunner Zoe Kazan. According to reports from the Hollywood Reporter, Pugh shared how collaborating with Kazan helped boost her confidence during the project. The Hollywood Reporter noted that Pugh was Kazan's first and only choice to play the central character, Cathy Ames. [1][2][5][11]
Screen Rant reported that the seven-episode miniseries adapts John Steinbeck's 74-year-old novel, which describes Cathy Ames as a monster born to human parents. While Steinbeck's original text depicts the character as pure evil, Screen Rant explained that the new screen adaptation takes a different approach to her storyline. [3][4][11]
Pugh is an English actress whose career accolades include a British Independent Film Award alongside nominations for an Academy Award and three BAFTA Awards. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the seven-episode limited series also features an original soundtrack score composed by Laura Karpman. [10][11]
Critical reception for the project has praised the production, with Empire Online describing the series as an excellent and elegant adaptation of Steinbeck's classic work. [6]
