Actress Ambika Mod has joined the cast for the second season of the Netflix spy thriller series Black Doves, BBC News reported. Speaking to Newsbeat, Mod stated that systemic racism remains a major problem in the entertainment industry and made it difficult for South Asian actors to advance. BBC News and a separate BBC report both confirmed her comments regarding industry inequality. [1][4]

Mod noted that the glass ceiling for South Asian actors is continuously getting higher, according to BBC News. Viewers had questioned why Mod had not secured as many roles as her One Day co-star Leo Woodall. Woodall has recently appeared in major feature films, including Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy and the A24 Anthony Bourdain biopic titled Tony, BBC News reported. [1]

BBC News highlighted a report from the Creative Diversity Network regarding representation in the television industry. Mod previously discussed not having access to the same privileges as some of her fellow actors when competing for acting roles. [1]

Mod grew up in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, and earned a degree in English literature. She worked as a personal assistant while performing stand-up comedy and improvisation before gaining wider recognition for her roles in the BBC drama series This Is Going to Hurt and the Netflix miniseries One Day. Mod later starred in the Disney+ thriller series The Stolen Girl. [5][7]
