Egypt's parliament has approved military help for Saudi Arabia if requested by the kingdom, Euronews, the Egypt Independent, Al Jazeera, Reuters, and Crude Oil Prices Today reported. The decision authorises President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to send troops or provide assistance to defend Saudi territory in coordination with Riyadh. [1][2][9][10][11]

The vote in the House of Representatives passed on Monday with the required two-thirds majority, according to Euronews. The measure comes as attacks by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis threaten Saudi Arabia and shipping in the Red Sea. [1]

Following the vote, Yemen's Houthis stated that Egypt's decision to provide military support to Saudi Arabia is a declaration of war, according to reports from Türkiye Today, Firstpost, The Times of Israel, and Ynetnews. [4][7][8][12]

The approval follows earlier steps by Cairo, as FTMQ News reported previously that Egypt pledged support for Saudi security following initial Houthi drone strikes, though parliament initially postponed a vote on the matter. [18][19]

Euronews reported that the parliamentary decision coincides with Saudi officials holding talks in Iran as regional leaders seek to prevent further escalation of the fighting. [1]
