Egypt has announced that it is ready to offer all necessary and possible support to Saudi Arabia to defend its safety, resources, and territorial integrity, Al Jazeera and Arab News reported on Sunday. The announcement followed a meeting of Egypt's National Defence Council, which was chaired by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The decision comes as Saudi Arabia continues to face repeated attacks from Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi rebels. [1][2][9]

Saudi Arabia reported that it recently intercepted a fresh wave of incoming drones fired by the Houthis, according to RTE. ie. The presidency in Cairo stated that Egypt stands fully with the kingdom to protect its security and Islamic holy sites. Alongside military considerations, the Egyptian president's office noted that Cairo would intensify diplomatic efforts to achieve de-escalation in the region. [1][5][6][7]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, President el-Sisi had previously requested parliamentary approval to authorize defense assistance for Saudi Arabia if requested by Riyadh. The move follows escalating security concerns after Houthi strikes targeted southwestern Saudi Arabia and military forces intercepted incoming ballistic missiles. [13][14]

Saudi Arabia occupies the bulk of the Arabian Peninsula and shares a southern border with Yemen. The region has seen an escalation in fighting, including recent Saudi-led coalition airstrikes aimed at breaking a Houthi siege in the Yemeni city of Taiz. [10][11][14]
