Dublin Gaelic football manager Ger Brennan has criticised the disciplinary rules that will force him to sit out Dublin's opening two National League matches in 2027. Independent.ie and the Irish Times reported that Brennan described the punishment as draconian and claimed that the penalty did not fit the crime. [1][2][3][4]

According to the Irish Times, Brennan previously missed four Championship games last summer following an altercation during the final round of the league, which resulted in a 12-week ban. Independent.ie reported that Brennan found not being permitted to coach his children's teams to be a major hardship during his initial three-month suspension. [1][2]

The Irish Times stated that Brennan sought legal advice from his solicitor, Conor Sally, regarding the disciplinary matter. However, the legal review established that Brennan only met two of the three necessary elements required for clemency to be applied to his suspension. [2]

Brennan played for St Vincents and the Dublin county team before managing the Louth county team between 2023 and 2025. He was appointed as the manager of the Dublin senior football team in August 2025. [8]

Brennan is now preparing to complete the remainder of his suspension when Dublin begin their National League campaign in 2027. The Irish Times reported that he is calling for changes to the disciplinary process in Gaelic football. [2]
