Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca faces a shortage of options in attack ahead of Tuesday's Champions League match against AEK Athens, after Antoine Semenyo was ruled out with a knee injury. BBC News and The Guardian reported that Semenyo suffered the injury during Saturday's game against Ipswich and will be absent for eight weeks. Haaland also hobbled off at full time in that match with a foot injury, according to The Guardian. [1][2]

Haaland is a doubt for the AEK Athens fixture, BBC News and The Guardian both reported. Maresca stated that Haaland can be available and would be assessed following training on Monday, according to BBC News. However, BBC News noted that Haaland was not present during the training session open to the media. [1][2]

Haaland has scored in six consecutive top-flight games to help Manchester City reach the top of the Premier League table after winning all seven opening matches, BBC News reported. Against Ipswich, he reached his 100th non-penalty goal in the Premier League. Semenyo's injury leaves Maresca short of cover, as previous back-ups Julian Alvarez and Omar Marmoush found it difficult to feature behind Haaland. [1]

Manchester City was founded in 1880 as St. Mark's before becoming Manchester City in 1894. Haaland joined the club in July 2022 for a reported 51 million pounds, scoring 52 goals across all competitions in his debut season as City won the treble. [12][14]

Maresca confirmed he will ring the changes for Tuesday's match against AEK Athens, according to The Guardian. The team holds a three-point lead at the top of the Premier League after Arsenal defeated Nottingham Forest 1-0 on Sunday, as reported by thejournal.ie. [2][3]
