A driver who dragged a head teacher for more than a mile under his car has been sentenced to life in prison for murder, BBC News reported. Simon Richardson, aged 35, received a mandatory life sentence at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court and must serve at least 25 years behind bars. [1]

The victim, 56-year-old Michael Mullins, was a married father of two and worked as the head teacher of Stretford Grammar School in Trafford. BBC News reported that Richardson collided with Mullins on 20 April in Warburton, Greater Manchester, while the victim was cycling home from work. [1]

Jurors at the trial heard that Richardson stopped after the initial impact to try to dislodge the injured cyclist, who was still alive. He then drove on while Mullins remained trapped under the vehicle. BBC News noted that Richardson had previous convictions for 28 offences. [1]
