Michael Bowen, aged 35, has been jailed for life for the murder of his 65-year-old mother, Janet Bowen, at their home in Hampshire. The Daily Mail and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary both report that Bowen attacked his mother in the early hours of New Year's Eve. [1][2]

According to the Daily Mail, Janet Bowen was bed-bound and vulnerable after recently suffering a stroke. Michael Bowen struck his mother over the head with a hammer more than 10 times during the attack. [1]

The Daily Mail reported that Bowen worked as a carer for his mother and was described by his family as a caring son who had been changed by heavy drug use. [1]

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary stated that Bowen was sentenced in relation to the murder, which took place in Yateley, and was jailed for 16 years. [2]
