Alexander Zverev of Germany officially reached the top spot in the ATP Tour singles rankings for the first time in his career on Monday, November 2. UPI and TennisTemple reported that Zverev received the ATP World No. 1 trophy during a ceremony in Paris. UPI noted that he is the 30th man in history to hold the top ranking. [1][3]

Zverev took over the top spot from Italian player Jannik Sinner, who fell to world number two, according to UPI. Carlos Alcaraz of Spain remains ranked at number three, while Ben Shelton of the United States sits at number four and Daniil Medvedev of Russia holds the number five spot. [1]

The Times of India reported that Zverev is the oldest first-time world number one player in 52 years, joining Boris Becker as a German man to hold the top position. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Zverev secured the points needed for the top spot after winning a match against Tallon Griekspoor in Vienna, becoming the first German man to reach number one since Becker achieved the ranking in 1991. [5][9]

Zverev has won 26 ATP Tour singles titles during his career, including two major championships at the 2026 French Open and the 2026 US Open. He also earned a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, along with seven ATP 1000 titles and victory at the ATP Finals in 2018 and 2021. [8]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Zverev had already clinched the year-end world number one spot for the 2026 season in October after Carlos Alcaraz lost in the third round of the Shanghai Masters and Jannik Sinner was sidelined with a knee injury. Zverev will finish 2026 as the top-ranked male player. [8][10]
