A 40-year-old woman who suffered catastrophic brain damage after tripping in Tramore, County Waterford, has settled a High Court action against Bus Eireann for 2m euros, the Irish Examiner reported. Monika Piech took the court action following the fall, which occurred seven years ago. The settlement was reached after a prolonged mediation process between the parties involved. [1]
The Irish Examiner reported that Ms Piech was taking a shortcut home at approximately 2am on St Patrick's night when the incident occurred. It was claimed that she tripped over a loose wire on a fence. The court heard her case through her counsel, Michael Counihan SC, who was instructed by MM Halley Solicitors. [1]
As a result of the brain damage sustained in the fall, Ms Piech now uses a wheelchair and requires 24-hour care, according to the Irish Examiner. Waterford is the oldest city in the Republic of Ireland and is located in County Waterford within the province of Munster. [1][3]
