Aine and John Duggan settled a High Court case against the Health Service Executive on Tuesday over the death of their newborn baby, the Irish Examiner reported. Their firstborn child, George Duggan, died two days after he was born at Cork University Maternity Hospital. [1]

According to the Irish Examiner, the legal battle lasted four years before the parents attended the Four Courts for the ruling. Baby George, who was from Sweeney's Hill in Rathpeacon, County Cork, died in the arms of his parents on December 21, 2022. [1]

The Irish Examiner reported that the family held the baby's funeral and burial on Christmas Eve. Following the settlement, the couple stated that no apology could ever put right what happened or bring their baby back. [1]
