The latest Warner Bros. film release Digger has flopped at the box office on its opening day, according to The New York Times and Variety. The New York Times reported that Digger earned 3.4 million dollars on Friday, placing it well behind the top film Verity, which brought in 15.1 million dollars. The film marks the final theatrical release for Warner Bros. before its studio merger. [1][8]
The release comes as Warner Bros. Motion Picture Chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy prepare to depart the studio on Tuesday, Deadline reported. Deadline noted that their departure follows a difficult year at the box office, with Warner Bros. generating 448.4 million dollars in overall receipts before the merger. [5]
The studio is merging with Paramount to form a combined entity named Skydance Corp., led by David Ellison. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery agreed to a merger valued at approximately 110 billion dollars, which is scheduled to close on October 6. [4][6][7][12][15]
Changes are underway across executive ranks ahead of the deal closing. Variety reported that Paramount TV media chair George Cheeks is expected to take on an expanded oversight role in television across the combined Skydance entity. [4]
In short
- Digger opened to 3.4 million dollars on its first Friday.
- Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy are leaving Warner Bros. on Tuesday.
- Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery are merging to form Skydance Corp.
