New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he spent two hours on the phone negotiating with President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin to release a man shot by federal agents on Thursday, the Washington Examiner and Crain's New York reported. The Washington Examiner noted that the negotiations were unsuccessful. During a Thursday evening press conference, Mamdani stated that agents placed the man into an unmarked vehicle and drove him away. [1][10]
The shooting occurred around 4 p.m. on Thursday in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx, according to reports from thejournal.ie, France 24, South China Morning Post, and washingtonexaminer.com. The New York Police Department stated that the incident happened during an altercation with federal officers while the man was in a vehicle. France 24 added that the 28-year-old man survived the shooting and received medical treatment at a hospital. [2][3][4][7]
A five-year-old child was inside the car during the altercation, thejournal.ie and France 24 both reported. The incident sparked protests across New York City, Fox News reported. Following the shooting, Mayor Mamdani announced plans to ask President Trump to halt operations and remove Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from the city, according to coverage from thejournal.ie, France 24, South China Morning Post, Time Magazine, and WKMG. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the New York Police Department denied that any of its own officers were involved in the Marble Hill shooting.
