An officer with United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement shot and injured a man in New York City on Thursday afternoon. DW and The Guardian reported that the shooting occurred at around 4 p.m. local time in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx. DW reported that local police confirmed the man was shot during an arrest attempt and was taken to a local hospital, where he remained conscious while receiving medical treatment. [1][2]

Early reports indicated that federal agents surrounded the man and a five-year-old child inside a car in a residential area before firing multiple shots, according to a statement from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani cited by The Guardian. The Guardian reported that the child was physically unharmed during the incident. The Washington Examiner reported that the Department of Homeland Security identified the wounded individual as an undocumented immigrant from the Dominican Republic who has criminal ties. [2][6]

The New York Police Department confirmed that none of its officers were involved in the shooting, as FTMQ News reported earlier. DW added that the department denied any personnel involvement in the event. New York City is the most populous city in the United States and consists of five boroughs, including the Bronx. [1][10][11]

Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the shooting as unconscionable, according to reporting from DW and The Guardian. DW reported that Mamdani urged Donald Trump to end ICE operations within New York City following the incident. [1][2]
