Former Calderdale Council member Faisal Shoukat has been convicted of running a fake coronavirus testing laboratory during the Covid-19 pandemic. BBC News reported that Shoukat was found guilty of causing public nuisance, fraudulent trading, and money laundering following a trial at Bradford Crown Court. [1]

Four co-defendants in the trial were cleared of all charges. According to BBC News, former justice minister Shahid Malik, Lynn Connell, Paul Moore, and Dr Alexander Zarneh were found not guilty of any wrongdoing. [1]

The verdicts were delivered directly by His Honour Judge Chris Smith. BBC News reported that Judge Smith issued the decisions after the original jury was discharged in April during deliberations, following the arrest of a juror on suspicion of conspiring to pervert the course of justice. [1]
