American R&B singer Chris Brown was given an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, according to the Guardian, the Associated Press via the New York Post, and RTÉ. The 37-year-old artist pleaded guilty to affray following an incident on the dancefloor at the Tape private members' club in Mayfair, central London, in February 2023. [1][3][4]

The Guardian, the New York Post, and RTÉ reported that Brown struck a man twice in the head with a heavy tequila bottle during the incident. RTÉ identified the victim as Brown's former friend Abraham Diaw. The Guardian and RTÉ added that Brown's vocal coach, 40-year-old Omololu Akinlolu, also participated in the assault, with the Guardian reporting that Akinlolu received a four-month sentence. [1][3][4]

The New York Post reported that Brown had faced up to three years in prison after entering a guilty plea to the affray charge in July. Affray is defined under UK law as the use or threat of unlawful violence that causes fear for public safety. [3]

Christopher Maurice Brown is an R&B musician, dancer, and actor who rose to prominence as a teenager with his 2005 debut album featuring the single Run It!. Over his career, he has sold more than 140 million records worldwide and won two Grammy Awards. [12][14]
