A certified spreadsheet fanatic has expanded his world record collection of physical spreadsheet software to more than 1,000 items, UPI reported on October 28. Ariel Fischman previously secured the Guinness World Record in 2018 when his collection held 506 unique copies of spreadsheet software. [1]

Fischman, who works as a financial advisor, began gathering the software after writing about the history of electronic accounting, according to UPI. His collection has now reached more than 1,000 different pieces of software. [1]

The electronic spreadsheet was originally invented by Dan Bricklin while studying for a master's degree at Harvard alongside his friend Bob Frankston, UPI reported. Paper-based spreadsheets originated in manual accounting practices, where large sheets of paper were ruled into grids of rows and columns to organize financial data, perform arithmetic calculations, and conduct analyses. [1][3]

Early software in the market included Lotus 1-2-3, a discontinued program from Lotus Development Corporation. It served as the first killer application for the IBM PC during the 1980s and significantly contributed to the success of IBM PC-compatible computers in the business market. [2]
