The youth-backed Student List won a majority in the Serbian parliamentary election held on October 25, 2026. Former Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic conceded defeat on Sunday after his right-wing Serbian Progressive Party was defeated, France 24 reported. [1][2][3]

Preliminary results from the Republic Electoral Commission show that the Student List won 53 percent of the valid votes with 96.9 percent of polling stations counted, according to Wikipedia. The movement is projected to take between 135 and 140 seats in the 250-member National Assembly, while the Serbian Progressive Party is projected to secure 104 seats. [2][3][4]

The Student List movement selected candidates including academics, engineers, artists, and activists through student assemblies, France 24 reported. Cardiologist Ilija Srdanovic led the youth-backed movement during the campaign. [1][4]

The political shift follows nearly two years of anti-corruption protests. The protest movement began after a concrete canopy collapsed at a freshly renovated train station in Novi Sad, killing 16 people, France 24 reported. [1][3][4]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Aleksandar Vucic originally dissolved the National Assembly and called snap elections ahead of the scheduled December 2027 date. Over 6.45 million eligible voters were able to choose candidates from 18 electoral lists. [2][4]
