Republican candidate Steve Hilton has launched a new campaign advertisement targeting Democratic opponent Xavier Becerra in the California gubernatorial race, the New York Post reported. The ad is in Spanish and aims to gain support from Hispanic voters and women. In the advertisement, Hilton accuses Becerra of extremism for supporting transgender boys playing in girls sports. [1]
The New York Post reported that the campaign advertisement depicts a transgender soccer player pushing past young girls during a game. It then shows an artificial intelligence generated version of Becerra watching and laughing, before claiming he is responsible for an injury sustained by one of the girls. [1]
Hilton is the Republican Party nominee for the 2026 California gubernatorial election, while Becerra is the Democratic nominee and former secretary of health and human services. Democratic incumbent Gavin Newsom is ineligible to run for a third term in the election scheduled for November 3, 2026. [3][4]
Hilton is a British born political commentator and former adviser to British prime minister David Cameron. Fox News reported that Hilton also toured Skid Row in Los Angeles to criticize the state handling of homelessness. [2][4]
