Democratic candidate Brian Poindexter released a new advertisement on Wednesday targeting incumbent Republican Representative Max Miller in Ohio's 7th Congressional District. The Washington Examiner and The Hill reported that the campaign spot highlights comments made by Senator Bernie Moreno, who is Miller's ex-father-in-law. According to the Washington Examiner, Moreno criticized Miller at the Capitol following domestic abuse allegations that emerged during the summer. [1][2][5][8]

The Washington Examiner and The Hill both reported that the ad spotlights a comment by Moreno regarding a custody exchange where Miller refused to give his daughter her plush bunny. Miller was accused in summer court filings of throwing scalding water at his ex-wife and breaking his daughter's collarbone, according to The New York Times. MSNBC and The New York Times noted that Miller denied the allegations and rejected earlier calls from fellow Republicans to abandon his re-election campaign. [1][2][3][5]

Despite the scandal, national party backing has begun to return to the district. MSNBC and The New York Times reported that Republican groups are resuming support and investing millions of dollars into the race as the contest tightens with one month remaining before the election. [2][3]

Miller has served as the U.S. representative for Ohio's 7th congressional district since 2023, while Moreno has served as the senior U.S. senator from Ohio since 2025. Both men are members of the Republican Party. The upcoming general election for all fifteen of Ohio's seats in the United States House of Representatives will take place on November 3, 2026.
