Democrat Cait Conley has claimed that the greatest threat to America comes from President Donald Trump and fellow Republicans rather than foreign adversaries. The New York Post reported that Conley made the remarks during speeches while campaigning for a seat in the House of Representatives. [1]

Conley stated in her speeches that she never thought the greatest threat to the country would come from within its borders, according to the New York Post. The race between Conley and Republican incumbent Representative Mike Lawler in New York's 17th congressional district is a neck-and-neck contest. [1]

Lawler has represented the district, which encompasses Rockland and Putnam counties as well as parts of Westchester and Dutchess counties, since 2023. Conley is an Army veteran who previously served as a top national security adviser in the Biden administration. [1][8][9]

Conley graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and served 16 years as an active-duty Army special operations officer, including six overseas deployments. She later worked as Director for Counterterrorism on the National Security Council and in election security at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. [11]

The election contest in the Hudson Valley swing district is currently considered one of the most closely watched congressional races in the country, the New York Post reported. [1]
