Online retailer Shein is outperforming several Australian high street retailers on ethical standards, according to the Guardian. The findings come from the 11th Baptist World Aid ethical fashion report released on Tuesday. [1]
The review evaluated the ethical practices of 138 Australian and international companies that represent 543 fashion brands. The Guardian reported that brands such as Ghanda and Windsor Smith received some of the lowest ratings in the report, which measured metrics including worker wages and sustainability. [1]
Overall, the report revealed widespread issues regarding fair compensation across the global apparel industry. The Guardian reported that only 13 percent of the fashion companies surveyed were able to show evidence of paying a living wage to any of their workers. [1]
Shein is a global fast-fashion platform that operates across Europe, the Americas, Australia, and the Middle East. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the company's United Kingdom sales rose 26 percent last year to 2.58 billion pounds, passing rival online retailer Asos. [3][6]
