The Department of Homeland Security has launched a nationwide operation targeting undocumented immigrants accused of fraudulently obtaining benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Fox News reported that United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed the operation, which has resulted in multiple arrests across the country. [1]
Immigration and Customs Enforcement stated that individuals without legal status should not be receiving public welfare benefits. The operation specifically targets non-citizens accused of unlawfully obtaining Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food stamps. [1]
The crackdown follows previous federal operations conducted by United States immigration agencies. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection previously launched Operation Metro Surge in December 2025, an initiative in Minnesota that the Department of Homeland Security described as the largest immigration enforcement operation ever carried out. [2]
Federal and state authorities have also been investigating broader benefit fraud schemes. As FTMQ News reported earlier, a Pennsylvania welfare supervisor was charged in October 2026 for allegedly stealing over 20,000 dollars in benefits, while the Federal Bureau of Investigation returned a suspect from India to face charges for an alleged 600,000 dollar food benefit fraud scheme in Washington state.
