The New York Post and Facebook reported that a 76-foot Norway spruce was cut down on Thursday in West Edmeston, New York. The tree is traveling to Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan to usher in the holiday season. The New York Post and Facebook both reported that the conifer is expected to arrive at Rockefeller Center on Saturday. [1][3][4]

The New York Post stated that a crane loaded the tree onto a flatbed truck to start its 200-mile trip. The tree measures 50 feet in diameter and is around 75 years old, according to the New York Post. Reports on Facebook added that the Norway spruce weighs 11 tons. [1][3][4]

The New York Post and Facebook reported that crew members will wrap the tree with 50,000 multicolored LED lights. The New York Post also reported that workers will crown the top with a 900-pound Swarovski star. The tree will stand above the ice-skating rink at Rockefeller Plaza. [1][3][4]

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is installed every year in Midtown Manhattan. It is put in place in mid-November and lit during a public ceremony after Thanksgiving. The event features live entertainment, and the lighting is turned on by the mayor of New York City, the head of Tishman Speyer, and guest presenters. [9]
