Pennsylvania health officials confirmed on Wednesday that a sixth resident has died from measles during an ongoing state outbreak, UPI reported. The victim was an unvaccinated resident of Jefferson County who tested positive for the disease. State authorities did not release any additional identifying details about the patient. [1]
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported the death to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to UPI. The state measles dashboard shows 1,467 confirmed cases in Pennsylvania this year, which is an increase of 77 cases over the past seven days. [1]
The 2026 Pennsylvania measles outbreak began in the Lebanon County area in late April 2026 before spreading across much of the state. Wikipedia notes that over 99 percent of cases, along with all hospitalizations and deaths, have involved individuals who were unvaccinated. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the CDC agreed to deploy specialist support to Pennsylvania to help contain the expanding outbreak after statewide cases exceeded 1,200 in October. [2][3]
The outbreak is part of a broader national resurgence of the disease. Across the United States, more than 4,400 measles cases have been reported in 2026, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [3]
