The Royal Moroccan Air Force's first F-16 Block 72 aircraft performed its maiden flight on 6 October in Greenville, South Carolina, Euronews reported. Manufacturer Lockheed Martin confirmed the flight as the jet undergoes pre-delivery testing following earlier delays in the program. Euronews noted that this aircraft is part of an ongoing rearmament drive by Morocco that is being closely monitored in Spain. [1]

Spain continues to maintain a substantial lead over Morocco in total defence spending, holding advantages in naval and air power, according to Euronews. However, the outlet reported that Morocco has more military troops and rockets, supported by United States backings that are helping narrow the overall capabilities gap between the two nations. [1]

Morocco achieved independence from French and Spanish protectorates in March 1956. As FTMQ News reported earlier, relations between the two countries have faced recent tensions, including border security strains in the Spanish exclave of Ceuta during 2026. [12][13][14]

Testing of the new Moroccan fighter jets will continue in the United States prior to their official delivery and deployment, Euronews reported. [1]
