Ukraine's 92nd Assault Brigade has carried out its first aerial drone evacuation of a wounded soldier from the front line, Euronews reported on October 20, 2026. The Ukrainian military released video footage showing the rescue operation. Soldiers monitored the mission from a control room as the injured serviceman attached himself to the drone. [1]
According to the drone unit of the 92nd Assault Brigade, a standard ground rescue was impossible. Mines and active Russian drone presence trapped the soldier at his position, making conventional evacuation routes unsafe, Euronews reported. [1]
Drone warfare relies on unmanned systems that can be remote controlled by pilots or operated with varying degrees of autonomy. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Ukrainian firm SkyFall recently demonstrated a medical evacuation drone named StarGate. That aircraft can travel at speeds up to 105 kilometres per hour and carry up to 150 kilograms over minefields and damaged terrain. [2][4]
Military operations involving drones along the Ukrainian front lines faced recent challenges. As FTMQ News reported earlier, unannounced speed restrictions on SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet network disrupted Ukrainian drone missions across the country. [5]
In short
- The 92nd Assault Brigade completed its first front-line drone evacuation of a wounded soldier.
- A conventional rescue was impossible due to landmines and active Russian drone operations.
- Footage showed soldiers overseeing the operation from a remote control room.
