Former Australian batsman Mike Hussey was appointed as a consultant coach for the Australian national cricket team on Friday. Al Jazeera reported that the 51-year-old will work with the squad for next year's Ashes Test series against England and the 2027 Cricket World Cup. Al Jazeera also noted that he will assist Australia during the LA 2028 Olympics. [1]

Hussey rejected an informal approach from England's new red-ball coach, Stephen Fleming, to serve as their Test batting mentor, according to Al Jazeera. Instead, he committed to helping Australia address a recent batting crisis. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Australia recently suffered a 2-1 Test series defeat in South Africa. [1][18][19]

Known as 'Mr Cricket' for his technical expertise, Hussey played all forms of international cricket for Australia after making his Test debut at age 30. During his playing career, he won multiple International Cricket Council titles, including the 2007 Cricket World Cup, and contributed to a 5-0 Ashes victory against England in the 2006-07 series.
