Senior Fellow at the German Marshall Fund Bruce Stokes described the recent United States midterm election results as the biggest wave in fifty years during an interview with Stefan Grobe, Euronews reported. Stokes pointed to the domestic economy as a driving factor behind the outcome of the vote. [1]
Euronews reported that Stokes warned against over-interpreting the voting results from Tuesday. He highlighted ongoing political tensions between the progressive and moderate wings of the Democratic Party in the upcoming Congress. He added that the new makeup of the Senate will place certain Republicans who face re-election in a bind. [1]
The election follows warnings from analysts that Republicans could face political setbacks, as FTMQ News reported earlier. President Donald Trump had resumed campaign rallies in Kansas and Iowa ahead of the vote, which saw record levels of early voting across the country. [5]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 Senate seats were up for election. The midterm campaign was also marked by concerns over fraudulent polling data that influenced news outlets and tracking systems ahead of the voting date. [4][5]
