Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced that the government will make it a legal requirement for all employers to specify job salaries on adverts, according to the Daily Mail. Birmingham Live and Wales Online both reported that the new rule changes will apply to new job listings across the country. [1][8][9]
The Daily Mail reported that Burnham stated job applicants should know what a job pays before spending time and effort applying. Research by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development found that 41 per cent of employers always included salary details in job adverts, while 27 per cent of decision-makers with hiring responsibilities never included them, based on a 2023 survey of 832 decision-makers. Burnham has served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Labour Party since July 2026. He previously served as the Mayor of Greater Manchester from 2017 to 2026 before winning election as the member of Parliament for Makerfield in June 2026. [10]
