United States First Lady Melania Trump has secured an agreement between Russia and Ukraine for a temporary localized ceasefire in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, Euronews, CBS News, and the New York Post reported on Friday. The White House announced that both sides agreed to suspend military action in the southern city. [1][2][3][10]

The localized ceasefire is scheduled to begin on October 29, 2026, according to Euronews and the New York Post. Euronews reported that the pause in military operations aims to deliver humanitarian aid and help evacuate trapped civilians. The New York Post detailed that the agreement is intended to help evacuate up to 2,000 residents. [1][3]

Residents in Oleshky have endured years of Russian occupation, severe food shortages, and dangerous attempts to escape, Euronews reported. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Oleshky is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine, where local official Tetiana Hasanenko previously warned that residents were surviving on just one meal a day. Melania Trump, a Slovenian and American former model, is serving as the First Lady of the United States. She previously held the role from 2017 to 2021 as the wife of Donald Trump, who is the 45th and 47th president of the United States. [8]
