A multi-storey building under construction collapsed in the Eastleigh district of Nairobi, Kenya, on Friday 23 October. Euronews reported that the structure came down along Yusuf Haji Avenue at approximately 1:40 pm local time, leaving a large pile of concrete rubble. [1]

Emergency response teams were dispatched to the site to assist with search and rescue operations, according to the Kenya Red Cross. Euronews reported that Red Cross workers arrived at the location where excavators are being used to clear the twisted debris. [1]

Video footage from the capital showed large sections of the unfinished building reduced to broken concrete. Nairobi is the capital and largest city of Kenya, housing over five million residents as of 2024. [1][3]

The incident follows previous structural failures in urban centers globally. As FTMQ News reported earlier, a seven-storey building partially collapsed in the Maltepe district of Istanbul earlier in October. [4]
