Former President Barack Obama endorsed Democratic candidate Angie Nixon on October 24, 2026, in her election campaign against Republican Senator Ashley Moody in Florida. The Washington Examiner reported that Obama offered his formal support while campaigning in Ohio and Michigan. Politico, Florida Politics, WFLA, and firstcoastnews.com also reported the endorsement. [1][2][3][4][5]
The endorsement was delivered in a short video message released days before voters head to the polls. According to the Washington Examiner, Obama commended Nixon for opposing redistricting efforts that favored Republicans and praised her support for a 15 dollar minimum wage. [1]
The backing came after Nixon alleged earlier in the week that assumptions about Florida being perceived as racist had limited Democratic support for her campaign, the Washington Examiner reported. Nixon is a member of the Working Families Party and the Democratic Socialists of America who has served in the Florida House of Representatives since 2020. [1][6]
WFLA reported that Obama also weighed in on other Florida contests by endorsing David Jolly. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Obama was scheduled to campaign in Michigan for Democratic Senate nominee Abdul el Sayed. [4][10]
