The law firm led by Democratic election attorney Marc Elias is mounting a legal fight on behalf of Alaska Senate Democratic nominee Mary Peltola over her election certification against the Justice Department, the Washington Examiner reported. According to Elias, the Elias Law Group is currently litigating 92 election-related cases across 42 states and Washington, D.C. [1]
The certification dispute comes as Peltola, 53, challenges incumbent Republican Senator Dan Sullivan in a critical contest for control of the Senate, the New York Post reported. The New York Post also reported that Peltola is facing allegations from former staffers that she used a racial slur in a 2024 incident that allegedly followed an October 2024 dinner. [2]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, a judge recently dismissed a Justice Department lawsuit that sought to block the certification of Alaska's Senate election results if Sullivan lost. Donald Trump previously stated that he ordered the Department of Justice to file that lawsuit because two candidates named Dan Sullivan appeared on the Alaska ballot, which created potential voter confusion. [8][9]
Elias founded the website Democracy Docket in 2020 and left his role as partner at Perkins Coie in 2021 to launch the Elias Law Group. Peltola previously served as the United States representative for Alaska's at-large congressional district from 2022 to 2025, after working as a tribal court judge and a member of the Alaska House of Representatives.
